Gulf Radical Cup 2006/2007 - The Premier Race Series in the Gulf

There are 4 steps that need to be taken to get started in the exciting world of Motorsport here in the Gulf. Undoubtedly the Gulf Radical Cup is the premier race series and every one that is associated with it is assured of a high quality racing experience. Its important to note that even if you are a complete novice you can still race in the GRC, we had 3 drivers do their first ever race with us last season.

Step 1 – Getting a Race Licence
To race in any FiA controlled race series (as the Gulf Radical Cup is) you need an FiA race licence. There are many different grades of licence but to race in the Gulf Radical Cup you need a UAE National Licence from the Automobile & Touring Club for the UAE.

To obtain this you have to take part in a one day assessment course that is held by the Dubai Autodrome Race & Drive School. Contact James Burnett (jamesb@dubaiautodrome.com) at the race school to arrange your session. It is designed for people with no racing experience and comprises of training and assessment, so it’s a great place to have your first experience of circuit driving. Step 2 – Getting kitted up.

You will need to make a small but very important investment in some protective racewear. You should budget about AED 6,250 for this (Crash Helmet, fireproof race suit, boots, gloves and underwear). Be generous when looking at this kit, as our advice is to get what fits you best and the top quality that you can afford. Step 3 – Getting a Radical and testing it.

Now you have a race licence. Welcome to our world…!

You can finally get out on track on one of our official test days. These are only for people that have race licences and so are a really good environment to get some seat time in your new car.

Step 4 – Your first race and the rest of the season.

Your first race is always a very exciting experience, but also can be quite daunting. In our first season GulfSport helped 3 new drivers through their first ever race and all managed a great job. Most importantly, they all finished. It is extremely important to have knowledgeable people around to mentor you and give you the very best support.

For the rest of the season you may need a team like GulfSport to store and prepare your car for the remainder of the season. This, as you would imagine, is a service that is delivered to the very highest of standards.
